CAFÉ ARÁBICA E ROBUSTA: QUAL A DIFERENÇA?

ARABICA AND ROBUSTA COFFEE: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir are grape varieties. When drinking a good wine, we know that each variety has different characteristics, flavors, and aromas. The same goes for coffee. Discover the different types most consumed in Brazil and make your coffee experience more special with Orfeu.

With more than 200 bean varieties, coffee absorbs the characteristics of the terroir where it is grown, so each growing region determines a different type. Below, learn about the most well-known ones:

Arabica vs. Robusta
These two are the most well-known and consumed coffee species in Brazil and deliver different sensory experiences in flavor, aroma, and caffeine concentration.

Both originating from Africa, the main reason for their differences are the distinct growing regions, which, as explained above, interfere with the sensory profile of the bean since each soil has specific properties.

Arabica coffee
Natural crosses gave rise to diverse varieties of Arabica beans. The most well-known in Brazil are:
- Bourbon (Yellow and Red).
- Catuai (Yellow and Red).
- Mundo Novo.
- Icatu (Yellow and Red).
- Obatã.

Orfeu has over 27 varieties planted on Fazendas Sertãozinho - which consist of 5 owned farms located in the high mountains of Southern Minas and Mogiana at altitudes of 1,000 to 1,500 meters.

Our coffees are 100% Arabica, and each line explores a different sensory profile. For example, Intenso, where you taste a more full-bodied coffee with a dark roast. From the Red Catuai variety, the sensory profile is toasted caramel and compote fruits.
