O JEQUITIBÁ

THE JEQUITIBÁ

Standing 50 meters tall and over 1,500 years old, it is the guardian of the coffee plantation and those who work on this piece of land. To better introduce it, we gave the floor to our Jequitibá-rosa.

It is treated as the guardian of the crop by the families who live on the Sertãozinho Farms. Its grandeur can be observed from different points of the plantation and, at 1,500 years old, it has been through a lot, such as lightning strikes and marriage proposals.

Resilient, it stands tall as an example for those who observe it. To alleviate and heal possible wounds, every year the farm team prepares a natural dressing to apply to its trunk. And, to explore its 50 meters of height, a specialized rappelling team applies this "paste" to the Jequitibá's wound. "Fortunately, most of it has already healed and it remains healthy," says the general director of the farms where Orfeu is produced, José Renato G. Dias.

Those who see it solitary and imposing in the middle of the coffee plantation may even imagine that it is the only one on the property, which is not true. There are other Jequitibás and several native trees in the region. "While legislation requires 20% green area, we preserve 30% and also plant about 2,000 native trees per year to increase this area," explains José Renato.

The figure is so important to the tradition of the farms that it served as inspiration for the creation of the brand's logo, before its relaunch in 2016. Orfeu believes that the Jequitibá has the perfect vision to show the greatness of everything that involves our universe. The people, the land, the coffee, the harmony. Everyone who goes to the farm is moved when they see it.
