Shall we drink in some art and discover the relevant role of women in this very important milestone for Brazilian culture?
In an era of conservative behavior, the participation of women in the 1922 Modern Art Week represented a break from social paradigms. Their determination and courage led them to assume a relevant role in the development of Brazilian modernism.
In addition to Marinette's behind-the-scenes work, other women performed at the event, such as Anitta Malfatti, who played a major role in the visual arts in the first phase of the movement, with her expressionist works, contributing to the production of new languages in the São Paulo art scene.
There was also Zina Aita, a painter, draftswoman, and ceramist. She participated in the 1922 Modern Art Week with eight canvases; her works also highlighted her strong connection to another artistic movement: Impressionism.
In addition to these illustrious names, we had Guiomar Novaes, a pianist who began playing at the age of 8, already with absolute mastery of technique, with poetry and precision. The artist performed 3 works by Villa Lobos, among them was the work O ginete do Pierrozinho.
